Blue Couture for Oceans

blue_oceanIcy wind continues to howl down the Great Plains, slicing through cities and sending ill-prepared citizens throughout the South East scrambling for warm spots inside. Others of us, on the other hand, have the great fortune of glowing sunny skies, balmy winter temperatures and outdoor dining. Wherever you are, you must be thinking about what you’ll be wearing tomorrow. Whether it’s your morning gym routine, a board meeting, a school exam or a night on the town, your fashion choices will make a statement. On Wednesday, you have the opportunity to not only to look good but to make a political statement. This doesn’t mean you have to wear a frumpy political t-shirt with a slogan emblazoned across the front. Instead, you simply need to wear something in a lovely shade of blue to show that you care about your oceans.

Blue happens to be one of my favorite colors and my house happens to be decorated with much light blue furniture and walls. I was disappointed when I was told that I couldn’t get my new car in a shade of light blue and had to settle for white. There’s bold midnight blue which is a reminder of the color the sky when it glows with twinkling lights is stained in rural areas (unfortunately, in many urban areas the sky is actually an unnatural neon orange at night). There’s more blues in the universe than a Benjamin Moore paint sample sheet can hold; think of all of the periwinkles, aquamarines, sapphires and navy blues. They’re all for you to choose from to make a statement and to look good (aren’t both equally important?). And, of course, there's the old stand-by of blue jeans.

The oceans are sources of inspiration for us. They are integral to the survival of our planet. They provide invaluable health, economic and social resources to billions of people. And, for many of us, they are a source of joy, vacation and provide visual sustenance in what can sometimes be a rather gray, drab world.
